at the rate of $12 a year, and a similar grout will be made on the earne conditions after the end of five and soven years. The Good Gonduct Circular Pay is not to be regarded as an automatic increment. Good Conduct Pay will be dated from the 1st day of the month next succeeding that in which the periods of 3, 5 and 7 years have expired, and should be estimated for on that basis.

(2.) In the case of appointments, other than Clerkships, to which salaries of $240 a year or under are attacled, the nades i appointees or officers dismissed need not be reported in each gase, but Heads of Departments should keep a Nominal Record of a such eubordinates, showing the reason of dismissal, and any clu.nges já such effices should be notified to the Colonial Secretary at the expiation of the month on the prescribed schedule for approval.

F.- Private Nursing staff.

49-(1.) The Nursing Sisters will live a building attached to the Civil Hospital and be supervised by the Matron of that Hospital. They will be employed as "Private Nursing Sisters" with the condition that after three yeare' wholly satisfactory Service they shall be offered the first vacancy that may occur in the hospital nursing staff of the Colony. While the "Private Nursing Sisters" are always to be available for private nursing when required, the Government. may employ them in the hospitals of the Colony when the are not otherwise engaged.

(2) The Nursing Sisters will be offered the same terms as are given to the Government Nursing sters at the Hongkong Government Civil Hospital, which are as follows:--

Salary £110 a year rising after three years of service to £130

a year.

Uniform, lodging, free fuel and light, attendance and laundry

provided, not board.

Free passage out and home.

Three years agreement.

(3.) If re-engaged the Nursing Sisters will be placed on the pensionable establishment of the Colony and the salary will be raised to £150 a year after six years' service dating from arrival in the Colony.

(4.) Subfect to proper arrangements as to sleep and exercise, as men- tioned in sub-section (5), Nursing Sisters in charge of private cases are required to devote all their time to the patient and to perform their duties with precision.

They are expected to cause as little inconvenience as possible to the household and to do their utmost to gain the confidence of their patients d those immediately connected with them, thus becoming a source of help and comfort to all concerned.
